Creating Opportunities that Motivate Participants to Achieve and Succeed in School "Helping Kids build confidence and motivation for school and for life"

COMPASS is an After School Enrichment Program that currently runs out of Nettleton Elementary School in partnership with the Grant Community School Collaborative and the Nettleton Academic and Cultural Enrichment Programs. We provide an opportunity for students to receive extra academic support and to gain more knowledge in life skills, as well as other enrichment areas.
For students to be a part of our program they must be referred by a teacher, or family that is currently involved in the program.

Paramount to Our Program:

·        Consistent and caring relationships between young people and adults, and between young people and their peers

·        Constructive well-planned schedules/activities that are tailored to the youth

·        Sufficient and clean space

·        Strong partnerships with young people, families, schools, and our community

·        Committed and well-trained staff and volunteers

·        Our staff is dedicated to the healthy growth and development of children and all work very hard to make each of our sites full of fun and learning

Program Goals

·         Increased academic achievement

·         Increase students’ life skills through enrichment activities

·         Improve and maintain school attendance.I

Program Schedule:
Monday - Thursday 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm

·        Community Check-In and Snack Time (15-20 minutes)

·        Non-Competitive Group Games (15-20 minutes)

·        Learning Centers / Academic Support (30-45 minutes)

·        Life Skills / Enrichment (45-60 minutes)

·        Enrichment classes (once a week for 90 minutes)

Key Components:

Academic Support:

·        Tutoring that supports what is being taught in the classroom

·        Utilizes a "strategic tutoring model", assisting participants with current academic needs, but also helps them become lifelong learners

·        Academic goals of students are consistent from school day to OST program.

Life Skills Lessons and Enrichment Classes:

*     Health and Wellness, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), Creative Arts, Service Learning and Leadership, Dance, Drumming, Cooking, Music, Language, Writing, Kids Theater, Girls Scouts, etc.

Family Support:

·        A full-time Family Liaison will serve as an advocate and resource person between child, family, and school

·        We will develop a Personalized Learning Plan for each child using feedback from child, family, teacher, and COMPASS staff

·        Family Nights for participants and school community.
