Our Program

Over the years, the YMCA has taught the joy of swimming to thousands of children and adults in Duluth. Elements taught include personal safety, skill development, personal growth, water sports/games and rescue.

We Offer:

  • Programs for all levels and ages
  • Progressive instruction
  • Small student-to-instructor ratio
  • Trained staff and certified lifeguards
  • Year-round classes

Programs Include:

  • Parent/Child swim lessons (ages 6 months-36 months)
  • Preschool (3-5 years) swim lessons with parent
  • Preschool (3-5 years) swim lessons without parent
  • Youth (6-12 years) swim lessons
  • Teen/Adults swim lessons
  • Adaptive swim lessons
  • Swimming combination classes (gym, sports, dance, cheer, ballet, fitness, etc)
  • Private and semi-private lessons
  • Swim Team (Kindergarten-senior in highschool)
  • Masters Swim Team
  • Birthday parties (pool, pirate, and gym & swim)
  • Spring Board Diving Clinics (at Morgan Park)
  • Scuba
  • Lifeguarding and other safety training

Financial Assistance

  • The Y believes that every child should be given the opportunity to learn how to swim.
  • Financial assistance, to the extent possible, is available to those in need.
  • Applications are available at the Y or in the membership section of our website

Session A: January 2 - February 18
Member Registration Begins: December 26
Community Registration Begins: December 28

 

Additional Open Swims

When they close the schools, we open the pools! The Y follows the ISD 709 school calendar.
From 1:00-4:00 will offer additional open swims during early release days and school breaks. This does not include school closures due to weather or other unscheduled events.

Lifeguarding Classes

Do you have what it takes to protect and save the lives of others? If so, we want YOU to become a Red Cross certified life guard! The Y will be offering a course in May. Dates and times are listed below. You must be in attendance to all sessions

Member Fee: $160
Community Fee: $180
Date(s): May 22, 23, 24, 29, 30, 31
Time: 4:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. each day (please pack a dinner or money for dinner)

Waterfront Lifeguard Bridge

We will hold a waterfront lifeguard BRIDGE in May. More information is coming soon! The waterfront bridge is an additional certification and participants MUST already be certified lifeguards. This course will follow the May lifeguard course, so feel free to sign up for both! The Y provides lifeguards a Park Point from the first weekend in June through Labor Day. Anyone interested in applying must be 18 or older and hold a current lifeguard and waterfront lifeguarding certificate. (The waterfront certificate never expires as long as your lifeguarding, CPR/AED is kept current.)
