*NEW THIS YEAR: While you are at the Y, we want the whole family to be able to participate in fi tness or fun. Therefore, we will now be offering a "Swim Lesson Pick-Up Time" from Kid's Club. If your child is in an evening lesson, you may check them into Kid's Club any time prior to the lesson with their suit on underneath their clothes. We will do a pick-up 5 minutes prior to the lesson and bring swimmers to their instructors. This way, you will not have to interrupt your workout or exercise to get your child to class!

YMCA Aquatics Program

The Duluth Y Aquatics Program is divided into several different levels and is oriented toward student-centered learning. It is designed to insure the student's safety, provide for regular, progressive success, and make the learning process more enjoyable. Personal growth, stroke development, water games and sports, personal safety and rescue are incorporated into each level.

Children / Youth Aquatics

Shrimp, Kipper, Inia, & Perch (Ages 6-36 months)
This program is a water orientation class designed for parent and child participation. The class encourages the bond of trust between parent and child and teaches parents how to guide and supervise their children around the water. The child will be exposed to basic movements.

Cuddle Fish (2 years-4 years)
This group lesson will emphasize the skills taught in our beginning preschool levels, but a parent will accompany the child in the water. This new class will be ideal for the independent toddler or the preschooler that still needs a little more assistance from a parent before enrolling in the pike class.
The class will have a balance between swimming with a parent and trying skills independently along with the teacher.

Pre-School (Ages 3-5 Years)
The preschool swim program has four levels designed to help children progress and build elementary swimming and safety skills. Children are placed in small groups with the YMCA trained instructors. Class emphasis is on developing the coordination, endurance, and self-confidence of the preschooler.

Pre-School Classes Offered:

  • Pike - Beginner
  • Eel - Advanced beginner
  • Ray - Low Intermediate
  • Starfish - High Intermediate

Youth (Ages 6-12 Years)

  • Polliwog - Beginner
  • Guppy - Intermediate beginner
  • Minnow - Advanced Beginner
