About Camp Kitchigami

Camp Kitchigami is a summer program serving kids ages 4-15. It has been owned and operated by the Duluth Area Family YMCA since 1979. Kitchigami offers programs designed to develop self-esteem, life-long skills, acceptance of all people and an appreciation for the environment.

Your child may participate in any or all of the following: swimming, kayaking, canoeing, archery, art projects, outdoor living skills, nature activities, fishing, hiking, sailing, team building, group games and field trips to area parks.

The Location

Camp takes place at Chester Bowl Park and is surrounded by towering pines, a creek and pond perfect for canoeing and fishing, a large field for games and countless hiking trails with scenic views of Lake Superior and stunning waterfalls. At Camp Kitchigami, outdoor recreation is unlimited.

The Heart of the Kitchigami Experience

The true backbone of the Kitchigami program is the dedicated staff. Staff are chosen for their proven abilities in working with children and being positive role models. The staff all have a great love for working with children in the outdoors. All staff are CPR and First Aid certified and go through an intense, week-long training before the campers arrive. It is our goal to provide fun and rewarding experiences where campers can make new friends, learn new skills and enjoy being in the outdoors.
