THE YMCA COMMUNITY SUPPORT CAMPAIGN

GIVE TODAY, FOR TOMORROW

We are a non-profit organization and strengthening community is our cause. With your support, we can make sure that everyone who needs the Y has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. Together, we have a meaningful and lasting impact on our community, one person at a time.

WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO

In the past year, the Duluth Area Family YMCA has provided over $300,000 scholarships to families and individuals, right here in our own community who need assistance.  That’s more than 3,000 children, seniors, and families who otherwise might not have become part of our Y family. Because of people like you, we were able to provide opportunities that improve our community’s health and well-being, activities that bring families closer together and programs that empower young people to find success. Your generous support keeps the Y available for those who need us most.

What Is The Community Support Campaign?

Our Community Support Campaign is our annual fundraising campaign to make sure the Y’s facilities and services remain accessible to everyone in our community. The Y is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides a number of services to the Greater Duluth and Cook County communities. Although the gym, swim lessons and youth sports might be some of the first things that come to mind, we have so many other services and offerings like:

  • MENTORING: Mentor Duluth and Mentor Superior are community-based programs matching youth ages 5-17 with responsible adults to guide and support them as well as provide a listening ear.
  • AFTER-SCHOOL/OUT-OF-SCHOOL TIME PROGRAMMING: There are 14 after-school program sites across our association providing students with a safe, nurturing place to increase their academic performance.
  • LITTLE TREASURES EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTER, a 4-star Parent Aware Childcare Center supporting families through quality childcare and family education programs.
  • LIFESAVING SKILLS: We train and certify our community, through ASHI and the Red Cross, as basic level responders in CPR/AED, First Aid, and in Child/Baby Sitting Safety; as well as lifeguards and basic water rescue
  • OPEN DOOR’S PROGRAM offers no-questions-asked membership to referred families transitioning out of homelessness.
  • THE YMCA’S DIABETES PREVENTION PROGRAM in partnership with Essentia Health, helps people develop maintainable, healthy lifestyle habits.
  • OUTDOOR DAY & SUMMER CAMP: In Duluth, Cook County and at Camp Miller, Sturgeon Lake campers develop character, a love of the outdoors and confidence through our camper programs.
  • And so much more!

Why Is The Community Support Campaign Important?

Strengthening community is our cause. We make sure that everyone who needs the Y has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive, regardless of age, income or background. We do not turn anyone away because of an inability to pay. However, we are only able to do this because of your generous support.

The money we raise during our Community Support Campaign goes to a number of different areas, all aimed at strengthening the foundations of our community.

Where Does The Money Go?

Your donation doesn’t GO anywhere. We make sure that 100% of your contribution stays in your community, right here in your own neighborhood. Last year, the Y provided over $400,000 of support to families and individuals in Duluth and Cook County. You may not know it, but your donation might be helping someone in your group exercise class afford a membership. It might be helping your friend’s child play youth soccer or attend summer day camp. It might be providing a family a safe place to reconnect as a family.

WHAT YOUR GIFT CAN DO

We are extremely thankful for every donation we receive, and every bit helps us on our mission.

Here are just some examples of what your gift can do:

  • $38 (less than $0.15 a day) can save a life by teaching a child how to swim and about water safety.
  • $50 (less than $1 a week) gives one child with disabilities a chance to play baseball in the Twin Ports Miracle League.
  • $70 ($0.20 a day) teaches civic engagement by covering the registration fee for one teen to participate in Youth in Government.
  • $150 ($12.50 a month) allows a family to keep experiencing the Y for 2 months during a hard time.
  • $167 (less than $15 a month) allows a child to have a place to go after school that is safe, nurturing and fun for 1 month.
  • $188 (a little more than $0.50 a day) can keep a child active and enhance their social skills through Summer Day Camp Kitchigami.
  • $225 (less than $5 a week) gives youth the chance to learn new skills and make friends playing 3 sessions of youth sports.
  • $475 (about $9 a week) sends a child on an unforgettable summer adventure at Camp Miller.
  • $1000 (about $84 a month) keeps a child in consistent, quality daycare at YMCA Little Treasures when their family experiences a crisis.

How Can You Help?

Each and every contribution goes a long way in helping the Y continue to provide and expand its services in our community. You can talk to any staff member at any branch to donate or to learn more, or, if you prefer, you can even DONATE ONLINE. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, your gift is tax-deductible.

But our services depend on more than just dollars…there are numerous VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES available, from working with teens to coaching youth sports to helping in your branch’s Community Support Campaign Fundraising efforts.
