The Reach & Rise™ Mentoring Program was founded in 1992 at the YMCA of San Francisco, and later piloted by five YMCA locations in Baltimore, Cincinnati, Nashville, Phoenix, and Oakland. At these sites, youth reported improvements in self expression, increase in school grades, higher self worth, improvements in relationships with others, and increased community involvement. As part of a national expansion beginning in 2013, the Duluth Area Family YMCA was selected as one of 38 Ys nationwide to offer the program.
