The Y has taught the joy of swimming to thousands of youth and adults in Duluth. Elements taught include personal safety, skill development, personal growth, water sports, and rescue.  We offer programs year-round for all ages and levels with small student-to-instructor ratios.

The aquatic department strives to be a program that builds relationships with its participants and the community.  Our goal is to assist our entire community build a healty spirit, mind, and body. We strive to provide meaningful programming, whether that is helping an adult overcome their fear of water or to help a child discover their love of swimming. Above all, we work to deliver the YMCA Mission in all that we do and we endeavor to be role models of the four core values of honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility

Gym & Swim
Our combination classes will get your child moving for an hour and fifteen minutes. All swimming combination classes begin with a half-hour of structured activities on land followed by a 30 minute group swim lesson. Some of the exciting activities we have paired with swimming include sports, games, and parachute time!
Private Lessons
Our swim instructors are also available for 1-on-1 lessons or semi-private lessons (2-3 children of the same level). If you feel that this option is a better fit for you and your child and your hectic schedule, please fill out a Private Lesson Request Form
The Duluth YMCA Lifeguard Training program prepares individuals for a lifeguard position. Must attend all scheduled classes and pass both written and water skills tests. Course includes: Lifeguard, First Aid, CPR, AED and oxygen administration certifications.
Log Rolling
Log Rolling (Ages 6 – Adults) Join us for an exciting session of Log Rolling! Our once a week classes will allow rollers to learn more about this unique sport and hone their own skills, all from the comfort and safety of our indoor pool. The continuous reward system of staying on the log longer and longer with every practice leads to a wonderful feelings of self-satisfaction for any new student and promotes confidence growth in any participant. Tri Swim is geared toward those 16 years of age and older who are looking to improve their swimming strokes, are training for a triathlon, or just need that extra push to make their stroke more efficient. Max Rubesch, Tri Swim Coach and head coach for the Duluth Y Northerns Swim Team, swam for Wabash College and has over 9 years of experience coaching swimmers of all ages and abilities.
Youth Swim Lessons
The Y Youth Aquatics Program is divided into several different levels and is oriented toward student-centered learning. It is designed to insure the student's safety, provide for regular, progressive success, and make the learning process more enjoyable.
Adult Swim Lessons
For adults at all levels, Y swim lessons emphasize endurance, personal safety, skill development, and lifesaving techniques. Adult lessons focus on learning to increase your comfort around water and then working on specific strokes and developing them.
Open Swim and Lap Swim
During scheduled Open and Lap Swim times, the pool is available for members who wish to participate in swim activities, as well as relax and enjoy our pool. It is a great time to workout independently or have family time to play together in the pool.
Northerns Swim Team
The Duluth YMCA Northerns Swim Team is for school-aged youth. At practice, kids are separated into ability levels and work on strokes and endurance. Each swimmer will have many opportunities to swim in meets with other youth of their same age.
