Active Older Adult programs accommodate a wide variety of interests and functional abilities of older adults. Programs include water exercise, strength building, stability gaining, yoga and stretching classes. The Duluth Y also offers socialization opportunities such as cribbage & coffee and monthly social excursions.

Tai Ji Quan is a falls prevention program derived from traditional Tai Chi movements and enhanced as a therapeutic practice to help older adults improve balance, coordination and postural control. This tailored workshop is led by trained coaches who guide people in learning a core eight-form routine and eight therapeutic movements from the Tai Chi Yang-style.
By the end of 12-weeks, participants report improved cognitive and physical functional abilities and reduced incidence of falls. Developed by Dr. Fuzhong Li, Ph.D., Oregon Research Institute.
12 Weeks, 2x per week; 1-hr/Sessions
Increase mobility, balance, range of movement, and strength in this gentle conditioning class. Uses light free weights, resistance bands, and ball for coordination. Chair is available for use.
Focuses on slow stretches, flexibility, and deep breathing to help reduce stress. This class includes safe and gently moves that enhance the flexibility of your spine and the muscles that control it.
Designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activity for daily living skills. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a ball are offered for resistance, and a chair is used for seated and/or standing support.
Low impact, therapeutic, aerobic, and strength conditioning class.
The Duluth Y has partnered with the Courage Kenny Northland organization to offer our members and community this excellent program. This program was developed for youth and adults with physical disabilities (MD, CP, MS, spinal cord injuries, etc). Adaptive Yoga is designed to increase strength, flexibility, balance, and ability to focus inward through the active practice of postures.To register, contact Mark Hanna at 218.726.4834
Time to get out and have some fun! Go on guided walks to see the fall leaves, listen to the serene sounds by the symphony, or dance the night away! Each season, we’ll be offering something fun for members and community members to come and participate in.
Take this change to relax and play some cribbage with others. Coffee and snacks are provided. Grab a cup of coffee and get a game going! Coffee and Cribbage takes place every Wednesday from 1-3pm at the Y at Woodland located at 3211 Allendale Ave, Duluth. FREE for YMCA and Woodland Community Center Members. All others, $1.00.
