Beach Conditions and Updates

LIFEGUARDS OFF DUTY FOR THE SEASON

During the summer season, lifeguards will be on duty EXCEPT when one or more of the following conditions are met: 

  • The air temperature is less than 55 degrees Fahrenheit
  • The water temperature is less than 40 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Severe wind creating waves over 3 feet
  • Dense fog or overcast
  • Light rain to heavy thunderstorms
  • When conditions are present that can cause rip currents, or if there are rip currents spotted
  • When water contact is not advised due to bacteria levels at the Beach House

The Duluth YMCA Beach Safety Team will allow access to the Park Point Beach House, answer questions about weather/water conditions, and educate beach users of dangers that might be present. The Beach Safety Team will NOT be on duty when one or more of the following conditions are met:

  • Dense fog or overcast
  • Light rain to heavy thunderstorms

Lifejacket Loaner Station

Need to borrow a lifejacket?

See a member of the Safety Team or a Lifeguard at the Park Point Beach House to check out a lifejacket for free! All that is needed is some basic information about where you are from - demographics help us determine funding sources. The Loaner Station is supported by the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary.

What’s the difference between the Beach House and a Pavilion?

All reservations for pavilions in the Park Point Rec Area and for the Park Point Beach House are made through the Park & Rec Department at the City of Duluth. Questions can be directed to Chris Severson at cseverson@duluthmn.gov.
