Internships Working with Youth and Recreation

Note: All of the following internships working with Youth and Recreation are located down at YMCA Camp Miller.  Housing is provided. 

YMCA Camp Miller is a 342 acre camp located on the shores of Sturgeon Lake, about 45 minutes south of Duluth.  In the summer, Camp Miller offers week-long overnight and day camp experiences.  The rest of the year, Camp Miller serves as a Rental and Retreat Center.  We provide environmental education and outdoor experiences for thousands of people each year.  The three main programs interns will be working with this summer include a Nature Based Preschool (ages 4-5), Day Camp (ages 6-12) and Resident Camp (grades 2-12).  

Nature-Based Preschool Program Planner (summer only)
Position Summary: This summer, we are piloting a nature-based preschool program at Camp Miller.  This position will involve creating and piloting that program.  Responsibilities include: providing leadership and instruction in pilot nature-based preschool program.  Note: Part of this internship can be based in Duluth (program planning portion) and the hands-on part will be based down at Camp Miller.  To view the full job description, click here.  

Environmental Educator (summer only)

Inclusion Specialist (summer only)
Position Summary: In an attempt to make the summer camp experience accessible for all youth, Camp Miller is looking to provide inclusion support for campers through this internship position. Our Inclusion Specialist Intern will work directly with youth in grades K-12 to provide behavioral support while they explore, play and expand their problem solving potential. This intern will work as an on-site aid to any campers with specialized needs. The focus will be on supporting individual campers to be successful and comfortable in the camps changing and dynamic environment. This internship position will provide the student with practical experience working with a wide variety of youth in an outdoor setting. Outdoor Educator (summer only)
Position Summary: This Intern will have an opportunity to provide curriculum development support for our Nature Based Preschool, Day Camp and Resident Camp programs.  Programs include summer skill building activities to include nature/ecology, hiking, off-site tripping program, outdoor living skills, climbing, mountain biking, team building initiatives course, etc.  To view the full job description, click here.

Member Experience and Communication Specialist (summer or fall internship)

Human Resource Specialist (summer or fall internship)
Position Summary: This internship is intended to give students a practical, hands-on experience in the area of human resources. CATCH Program Coordinator (CATCH: Coordinated Approach to Child Health) (fall internship)
