Our Purpose Defines US…

The Y is a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community by connecting all people to their potential, purpose, and each other.  Working together, we focus on empowering young people, improving health and wellbeing, and inspiring action in and across our community.

The Duluth Area Family YMCA has been strengthening our community for over 150 years through programs dedicated to youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

For Youth Development
We nurture the potential of all youth and teens. We create programming that responds to emerging opportunities to better serve youth in our community. We offer support, empowerment, boundaries, expectations, and constructive use of time.  We foster a commitment to learning, positive values, social competencies, and self confidence to inspire future success for all of our neighborhood youth.

For Healthy Living
The Y is the largest provider of health and well-being programs in Northeastern Minnesota. We facilitate programs that improve community health such as Diabetes Prevention.  To help families commit to their overall health and wellness, we offer free to members Kids Club -a two-hour childcare option so parents can focus on their health and wellness while knowing their child is well cared for.

For Social Responsibility
The Y helps families build bonds, connect with community resources, and become strong.  We give back to our community and support our neighbors.  Our members and staff volunteer outside of our organization, we collaborate with other nonprofits and youth-serving agencies, and we lead programs that build a sense of civic responsibility within our young people.

For All
Everyone is welcome at the Y.  All programs and membership are available to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay. Our scholarship and financial assistance program grant our neighbors free or reduced memberships and define our commitment to our community.  Every year, the need for assistance grows, but thanks to our communities' investment in our Y's annual support campaign, we can ensure that everyone is given the opportunity to participate in the life-changing programs of the YMCA and the chance to learn, grow, and thrive.

Community Impact

We take pride in the work we do together in our community. Our stories of impact go well beyond one person. And every year, there are new stories to tell.

The Y is, and always will be, dedicated to building healthy, confident, connected, and secure children, adults, families, and communities. Every day our impact is felt when an individual makes a healthy choice, when a mentor inspires a child, and when a community comes together for the common good.

Together, we accomplish so much more.

Y Impact Stories

“Upon arriving, I was very shy and anxious as usual. However, as the week progressed I made lots of friends and came out of my shell thanks to the counselors and my cabin. I tried a lot of new things and found new skills that I didn’t know existed. I had more fun than expected and I hope to come next year” –Camp Miller Camper Kristin

“The Y motivates me! My husband and I love the classes. They are challenging and fun! It’s so easy to come down here…We also love the social aspect – meeting and connecting with other members. They are our friends. The instructors have become friends as well. We miss the people and classes when we aren’t here.”  –Long Time Member Louise

“My three year old takes swim lessons. It’s great during the work week to have easy access and it’s a convenient way to allow my daughter to learn to swim. It fits a lot of my family’s needs.  We are able to come as a family. My husband and I can work out and spend time together. The childcare really makes the Y a great option for us.”  Family Membership Megan
