What to expect in St Luke's Kids Club:

Kids Club is a safe, caring, and fun environment for children ages 4 months - 9 years old while their parents/guardians are using the facility. For safety reasons, parents/guardians must remain at the Y while their child(ren) is in Kids Club.  Kids Club is a FREE Duluth Area Y Family Membership Benefit.

While your children are in our care they will:

  • Spend time with crafts and educational activities focused around the Y's Core Values of Respect, Honesty, Caring, and Responsibility.
  • Engage in free play time and movement time.
  • Enjoy time in a safe, welcoming, and positive environment that fosters a sense of responsibility and respect to both themselves and others.

Kids Club Rules:

Signing In: Sign in each child that will participate in the program. Please indicate all locations parents/guardians will be in while their child(ren) are in Kids Club. For safety reasons, parents/guardians must remain on premises while their child(ren) are in Kids Club.

Capacity: Maximum capacity of 20 children per time slot. This is adjusted if there is an influx of infants.

Diapering/Potty Training:

  • Your child does not need to be fully potty-trained but must enter Kids Club with a fresh diaper or pull-up. Please bring additional changing materials. Staff do not change diapers.
  • If needing to be changed, or if assistance with the bathroom is needed, a staff will contact you via text or phone call to alert you to return to Kids Club. Staff do not provide bathroom assistance.

Crying/Upset Child: If this is your child's first time away from you, we will do everything we can to ease the transition. We will not let them cry longer than 15 minutes or the allotted time you tell us before contacting you. Please come right away and pick up your child. We encourage you to try leaving your child with us again because we have found that children who consistently use Kids Club soon become comfortable with the staff and the surroundings.

Toys: All Kids Club toys are cleaned and checked for safety regularly. Please leave personal toys, coins, gum, and other small objects at home. The Duluth Area Family YMCA is not responsible for lost, stolen, or broken items.

Food: Snacks and drinks for your child(ren) are allowed but not provided. Please have containers labeled with the child's name, and place them in your assigned cubby space. Snacks containing nuts, peanuts, or peanut products are NOT ALLOWED.

Illness: We cannot accept a child if they have had symptoms of illness within the past 24 hours. Children suspected of illness will be sent home and asked not to return for at least 24 hours after symptoms are gone.

  • Symptoms include (but are not limited to): fever, lethargy, cough, vomiting, diarrhea, and/or unexplained rashes.

Pandemic Considerations: At this time, masks are not required.

Discipline Policy: Our discipline policy is mainly redirection. If that does not work, a break equal to the child's age will be given. If a child is a continuous threat to the safety of themselves, other children, or staff, we will ask you to come and remove your child.

Emergencies: Kids Club staff are trained in First Aid, CPR, and Blood Borne Pathogens. Parents/Guardians will be notified of an accident or injury that involved their child.

Child Abuse: All program staff are mandated reporters. Cases of suspected neglect or child abuse will be reported to the proper authorities.
