Active Older Adult programs accommodate a wide variety of interests and functional abilities of older adults. Programs include water exercise, strength building, stability, balance, and flexibility classes. The Duluth Y also offers other special events for socialization such as cribbage and Nature Walks.

Active Older Adult Group Exercise Classes:


Light & Low

Locations: GND Rec Center | Woodland Community Center 

Increase mobility, balance, range of movement, and strength in this gentle conditioning class. Uses light free weights, resistance bands, and ball for coordination. Chair is available for use.


Gentle Yoga

Locations: Downtown | Essentia Wellness Center 

Focuses on slow stretches, flexibility, and deep breathing to help reduce stress. This class includes safe and gently moves that enhance the flexibility of your spine and the muscles that control it.


SilverSneakers® Classic

Locations: Essentia Wellness Center  

Designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activity for daily living skills. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a ball are offered for resistance, and a chair is used for seated and/or standing support.


SilverSneakers® Circuit 

Locations: Essentia Wellness Center 

The SilverSneakers Circuit workout offers standing, low-impact choreography alternated with standing upper body strength work with hand held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a Silver Sneakers ball. A chair is available for standing support. 


Water Aerobics

Locations: Downtown | Essentia Wellness Center 

Low impact, therapeutic, aerobic, and strength conditioning class.


Senior Nature Fitness Walks

Locations: Woodland | Essentia Wellness Center | Gary New Duluth
